For NGOs and donors

Health economics for NGOs, foundations and donors

Costing, cost-per-beneficiary and value-for-money evidence that stands up to funder review — for proposals, reports, renewals and scale-up decisions.

Common challenges

  • Funders want value-for-money evidence

Proposals and annual reports increasingly ask for a cost per beneficiary and a value-for-money narrative, but programme finance data are rarely organised by activity or result.

  • Budgets need defensible unit costs

A budget built on guesses is hard to defend. A unit cost built with the ingredients approach, with every input traced to a source, is not.

  • Scale-up and transition decisions

As external funding changes, programmes need to show what it would cost government or partners to take them over, and what they deliver for that money.

  • Grants now expect an economic aim

Programme and research grants often ask whether an intervention is good value. That work has to be designed into the proposal, not added at the end.
