How it works
- Inflation factor = price index in the target year ÷ price index in the original year
- Cost at target-year prices = original cost × inflation factor
- Converted cost = cost at target-year prices × exchange rate (target currency per unit of original currency)
The calculator adjusts for inflation in the original currency first and then converts at the target year's exchange rate.Turner and colleagues (Value in Health, 2019) describe three methods for combining inflation adjustment and currency conversion — including converting first and then inflating with the target currency's inflation — and show that they can give substantially different results. Whichever method you use, state it in your report.
Use one consistent index series, such as the GDP deflator or the consumer price index, from a documented source. No rates are fetched or stored by this page.
